Since the murder of Martin Luther King, Jr. more Americans have died at the hands of Americans wielding guns than in every war since 1776. But we have a long standing division in our minds that as long as the slaughter of Americans is done domestically and not outsourced to foreigners, everything is fine. We deploy a host of absolutely stupid fallacies to make sure the slaughter continues unabated and those are all being trotted out at this hour. But the bottom line remains that guns make it much easier to kill and injure a lot of people very quickly, as well as make temporary suicidal impulses into eternal choices.
