This just came in over the email transom

Jeepers, that’s tempting. But I think I’ll pass.

People who claim to be the preservers of the Traditional Catholic Church but who deny the traditional Church teaching about the indefectibility of the Church and assert that the Church in council and in union with Peter is the “end-times Vatican 2 Counter-Church” impress me only with their amazing talent for cognitive dissonance.

Also, what’s the big deal about the 15 decade Rosary?

And I gotta say, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Fatima devotees make me think of the story of the Bronze Serpent in the Old Testament. It was a real revelation that God really gave. But the day finally arrived when God ordered a prophet to destroy it because Israel had turned it into an idol and begun to worship it in competition to the true God. Fatima 3rd secret zealots who routinely use this private revelation as a weapon to attack the Church only make me want to tune out everything Fatima-related.

And finally, the whole thing attacking NFP makes me crazy. It’s done by bullies and cowards who like to pick on the scrupulous because they are too chicken to take on real challenges to the faith.

The other day, I saw some Pharisees on FB attacking Simcha Fisher, mother of 10 and about as dedicated a disciple of the Church’s teaching as you could ask for in this department for somehow not merely not being pro-life enough, but for being (you guessed it) secretly pro-abortion. Her secret sin appears to be (gasp!) NFP, which is not good enough for the few, the proud, the Super Catholics.

The braying stupidity of this from the Ultra Hyper Super Catholics just sickens me. The constant drumbeat from these Pharisees is “You must obey not merely the Church’s teaching, but my fanatical interpretation of that teaching. NFP marks you as a slut who is insufficiently fertile! In fact, I will accuse you baselessly of wanting to kill children! And then, out of pure moronic spite, I will urge everybody to boycott your work so that you cannot feed your family!”

This combination of anti-abortion-but-not-prolife monomania with petty spite is the single most amazing feature of the Ultra Hyper Super Catholic, especially in combination with libertarian dogma. The constant message, “You must obey the Church’s teaching on artificial contraception on pain of mortal sin and even NFP is a bridge too far” combined with “…and we will viciously punish you for listening to us and having all those parasitic children, you slut!” does more than almost anything else to communicate to the world that “traditional” Catholics like the kook who sent me that email have no interest in stopping abortion or saving any lives. They just like treating women and poor people like garbage. And God help the family that asks for state aid if they cannot feed their children. Because the poor-shaming at the hands of Good Christians never ends.
