The Trump-Protecting Anti-Trumper

One pattern I find mysterious is the Christian offended by Trump enough to leave the GOP, but who still spends the bulk of his time pettifogging in his defense. These are the ones who refrain delicately from supporting him, yet will not get their dainty fingers dirty fighting him, and who spend most of their time ringing the changes on “Well, you have to admit that mean liberals forced conservatives to embrace him. Everybody is equally guilty when you think about it.”

So, today, for instance, Right Wing Media is making a huge to do over TIME’s devastating cover:

Why?  Because (gasp!) the little girl in the iconic photo was never actually separated from her mother!!!!!!11!!

So we get a bunch of boilerplate curses at teh Librul Media from the Right Wing Media, just as though this somehow proves… what?  That the brutal Trump policy of separating families did not (and does not still) exist?  This is straining at gnats and swallowing camels.  The point of the image is not about this particular child.  It is about the thousands of children ripped from their parents and fed to a chaotic system that has given their parents no clue where they are, that does not itself know, that has no plan for reuniting them, that has forcibly drugged them, that has raped and abused them, and which no decent human being can see without abhorrence.

So what are many conservatives who supposedly oppose Trump doing?  Pettifogging about a magazine cover.

Anyway, here’s somebody whose conscience just can’t take this shit anymore: SE Cupp.

Notably, she has described herself as an atheist, but has consistently stated that she is open to theism, and “really aspires to be a person of faith some day.” Thanks be to God she has not drunk the Christianist Kool Aid, but seems to be trying to listen for the voice of the the Shepherd instead. And without the aid of all the helps to which the Greatest Catholics of All Time have access, she is doing an infinitely better job of it.

With the witness of Real Christians[TM] these days, the fact that people are still drawn to Christ is a testament to the miraculous power of grace to attract people no matter how hideous the witness of those who claim to follow him.
