Catholic and Enjoying It!
This is one of those stories where I empathize with the message, but totally distrust the messenger. Are there a bunch of self-appointed inquisitors running around, declaring Catholics to be impure? Sure. Sometimes they even know what they are talking about. However, a lot of times, they are simply Catholics who dissent from a different portion of Catholic teaching than the Pelvic Left dissents from and they fervently believe that opposition to abortion taketh away the sins of the Right. Advocate the weird notion of accepting *all* that the Magisterium teaches and they tell you to go write for the National Catholic Reporter, because you are a tool of the devil who is trying to keep people from voting for the sacred Republican party. Such inquisitors don’t really strike me as knowing what they are doing.
However, that said, when MSNBC covers the story, one simply get the overwhelming impression that it’s the same thing from the other side. The fear is that a) little people are getting involved in democracy and that won’t do and b) people who threaten the standard progressive dissent talking point of again Generation Narcissus blatherers are gaining influence in the Church and this must be stopped at all costs.
I wonder what would happen if the Church ever got its act together and became an actual “organized religion”?
