I teach religion at a Catholic high school- as part of my pro-life presentation I copied some fact sheet materials from National Right to Life. The descriptions of the various abortion techniques drew some unexpected howls of protest from a vocal minority of my students- they suspected the information because they claimed the language used was heavily biased to the pro-life side of things. I took on their complaints and showed some Fr, Pavone youtube videos with actual abortion tools used in a simulation of different types of abortion- but these same students were too fired up from their upset reaction to the Right to Life organization’s material, so the intended effect was much reduced in that particular class.
I would love to come back with something that describes the same abortion techniques but with the more supposedly neutral academic/medical terminology- and let them unpack the exact meaning to discover the same basic story as what the National Right to Life describes in more polemical terms. They have already watched and considered the positive presentation of human development from the National Geographic’s documentary “In the Womb”, so I don’t want any of the students to have any excuses for remaining pro-choice, which is why I think there was such a hysterical reaction to my use of Right to Life organizational materials- and Priests for Life as well. The pro-choicers are on the ropes but they are clinging to the notion that somehow what they are witnessing is some kind of pro-life sleight-of-hand. If you know of any descriptive materials for abortion techniqes that is clinically accurate and uses terminology that is supposed to be politically neutral- can you post or link it on your blog? Appreciate the help.
Anybody know of any ritually pure information that Lefties can touch without incurring defilement? If so, Tim could use your help.
It’s amazing how many people navigate information, not by the accuracy of the information, but by whether people with the correct tribal affiliations are providing it.
