A reader writes:

My name is JP Brown and I actually met you once, along with Fr Shane Tharp, when you visited the University of Oklahoma for a series of talks several years ago (approx 2004?). In fact, I was the one who drove you back to the OKC airport after a failed attempt of trying to show you lingering tornado damage through Moore, OK. Haha.

Anyway, I know you often post links and give your thumbs up to various sites and other Catholic-related endeavors, so I was humbly seeking your endorsement:

Background:
Like yourself, I am a convert from an evangelical background. When I was 18 years old and a Freshman at the University of Oklahoma, I converted to the Catholic Church (Easter 2001) from the Southern Baptist faith and have been on fire trying to teach my family and friends about my cherished Catholic Faith ever since. Over the years, I have been involved in teaching both RCIA and apologetics classes at my parish.

Several months ago, I created a homemade, “Catholic trivia” board game for my small group of Catholic friends to play for fun at our kitchen table in Oklahoma. While discussing my game at work, one of my co-workers challenged me to use my (rather rudimentary) programming skills to make a multiple choice, quiz version of my board game available for the iPhone. After months of writing and coding questions, I completed my iPhone application this August, which I simply entitled: “The Catholic Game”.

The Game:
The Catholic Game contains over 500 questions on Catholicism, broken down into five, comprehensive categories:

• Dogma & Theology (100 questions)
• Bible Trivia (100 questions)
• History & Tradition (100 questions)
• People & Places (100 questions)
• Rituals, Objects, & The Mass (100 questions)

Since The Catholic Game’s release last month, it has already been downloaded by users in over eight different countries! With the iPhone being the world’s most popular handheld device (over 33.75 million iPhones sold worldwide), I think The Catholic Game will be a wonderful, new platform to educate, teach and evangelize to others – especially tech-savvy youth and young adults (who seem to all have iPhones) – about the Catholic Church.

My main purpose for writing this letter is I was wondering if there was anyway you could help me spread the word about The Catholic Game. If you would like to blog about it, I would be absolutely thrilled and ever-grateful! If not, no problem whatsoever! I’m not really sure how the “protocol” of asking for these things works! Ha. So, if not, I completely understand — just telling your family and friends about it in casual conversation will suffice! =)

If you have any questions or need more info, I can be contacted at [email protected]. For more information about The Catholic Game, you can visit the website: www.thecatholicgame.com ; or, you can preview the game on Apple’s iTunes website.

I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to read my letter! Take care and keep up the good work.

Of course I remember you! That was a fun trip, and I very much appreciated both the ride and the tornado tour! Plus, I think it’s fun you’ve created this game! Keep up the good work!
