From your post ‘Brother Darwin’s Gospel Hour’, I see that you take advantage for a few pokes of fun at your ‘foolish’, ‘crackpot scientist’ Protestant, separated brethren. However, I am curious to know if you think that the science is actually finally settled about this issue and that the Pope is not merely hedging his bets so as to avoid more embarrassing moments as those about Galileo et al. I am also curious of whether or not you know that one of your own, Dr Michael Behe, is a leading proponent of the theory of intelligent design.

I live in Seattle and know the guys at the Discovery Institute. I’ve corresponded with Behe a bit. One can be a creationist (ie., believe God is Creator) without being a six day creationist. Behe has no quarrel with evolution per se. He merely rejects atheistic materialism, as do I. I think ID has some problems, as do a number of Catholics. But rejection of ID is not the same as rejection of the doctrine of God as Creator. Similarly, acceptance of Creation is not automatic rejection of evolution. By the way, when you speak of Galileo “et al”, who is the “et al”?
