Part of my ongoing series of utterly baffling nice theological reflections on Mary that are in such incomprehensible contrast to my hurtful denunciation of the use of torture that deeply wound the ever-so-sensitive feelings of those who are eager to make the US into a torture regime and mute the Church’s teaching in to absolute silence. How do I reconcile a love of Mary with my hurtful remarks about those who want to subject human beings to drowning, hypothermia and asphyxiation? What mysterious thread could possibly tie together these diametrically opposite positions of love for the mother of a torture victim with my inexplicable hostility to torture apologetics?
