Your post on Mike Flynn today reminded me to tell you this: based on your posts on him I ordered both Eifelheim and In the Country of the Blind (perversely, neither was available at my local Barnes & Noble). I’m about halfway through Eifelheim and ITCOTB arrived today. I love love love Eifelheim and am looking forward to reading the latter.

ITCOTB is going into the stack of books I’m saving for my wife’s upcoming surgery, which brings me to my second reason for writing you. Julie (my wife) is having a masectomy in the next couple of weeks, along with simultaneous reconstruction of her breast using tissue from her abdomen. The procedure is very gruelling and painful (the reconstruction, more so than the masectomy). The good news is that the cancer is (1) in very early stages and (2) has not spread, based on the pathology report on her sentinal lymph nodes from an operation she had in December, so we are confident that this will take care of it. In any case, please remember her in your prayers.

Glad you are lovin’ on that great book! And may God our Father see Julie through this surgery and back to health and joy through his Son Jesus Christ. May he give you courage, strength and love through this time so that you can continue to be her good and loving husband and the strength she needs. Mother Mary, St. Luke and St. Peregrine, pray for all involved in this time of trial and for especially for her caregivers that they eliminate the cancer completely.
