A reader writes:

I have a childhood friend (we went to K-12 grade together) who contracted meningitis and who has been in a coma-like state since Thanksgiving. The thinking is that because the damage was to the myelin sheath and the brain stem, he could have what is called “Locked-In” syndrome. It is the closest thing to being buried alive. He is a gifted artist and the possibility of not being able to move anything for the rest of his life is terrifying. He can communicate somewhat by blinking. His “partner” reports that he is extremely depressed.

Father, hear our prayer and grant this man complete healing through Christ our Lord. Let this trial issue in praise and thanksgiving for your mighty saving power, Deliverer. Mother Mary, pray for him that he might be given complete healing through Christ our Lord. Amen!
