…could use some tinkering in the editorial dept.
Every once in a while, I get people writing me about this or that Catholic news outlet, declaring that because they ran this story or that editorial, the whole thing should be closed and padlocked. I don’t think there is a single Catholic news organ in the English-speaking world I haven’t gotten this complaint about and the solution always seems to be the same: shut them down!
Me: I think you will never get unbiased news and searching for news that exactly matches one’s own biases is steady work. This is also we I take so lightly the gasps and accusations of readers who get their undies in a bunch when I link to some news stories from a source they regard as ritually impure. I seldom *care* who wrote an article. What I care about is, “Do they have documentation for the claims they are making?” If so, then deal with it. Don’t tell me, “So and so wrote this, so I don’t have to pay attention to what he said.” You may as well say, “I’m going to walk out in traffic if so and so tells me not to.” Not too smart.
