…you may be interested in this panel discussion we (Marcus Grodi, Fr. Ray Ryland, Scott Hahn, Yr. Obdt. Svt., and Roy Schoeman) held at the Coming Home Network’s “Deep in History” conference out in Columbus, OH last October. It was a fun conference, full of hundreds of gung ho Catholics (and a few curious Evangelicals) who were there to celebrate Christ and give thanks for what Paul calls “the riches of his inheritance in the saints”. I always feel weird... Read more

…of Jesus founding the Church? The obvious, Occam’s Razor answer is “No”. I often run into people who posit some vague theory that Jesus never existed or the Church was founded by somebody else, but they tend to not be very specific about how this stacks up against information that might call their theory into question. Basically, it appears to be a game of suppressing information in the New Testament they dislike and exaggerating information in the New Testament that... Read more

at the bottom of the sea. The article is an interesting piece simply because it can’t bear to say, “There’s something there. We don’t know what it is. End of story.” Instead it sort of morphs into a diatribe about UFO’s, an advertisement for Occam’s overrated Razor, and a rant about how dumb somebody is for speculating that it might be an alien craft, etc. Occam’s Razor is a good rule of thumb, but not an infallible metric, largely because... Read more

From Henry VIII to Elizabeth I to the Nazi German Christian Movement to the Patriotic Church in China, the strategy of tyrants at war with the Catholic Church is to create a fake nationalized church docile to the will of the tyrant and to use it as a weapon against the real Church. Obama is now attempting precisely that. Don’t be a sucker. RESIST THE TYRANT! Read more

One of my doomsayers announces that the bishops. just. caved. So I go and look at what they actually said: The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) sees initial opportunities in preserving the principle of religious freedom after President Obama’s announcement today. But the Conference continues to express concerns. “While there may be an openness to respond to some of our concerns, we reserve judgment on the details until we have them,” said Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan, president of USCCB.... Read more

But this battle has me reconsidering. In a principle-of-double-effect sort-of way, might it be OK to elect a GOPer just to stop this assault on the Church? I’m conflicted and would be grateful for whatever light you can shine. Not much, I’m afraid. I’m ruminating the same question.... Read more
