American Catholics: leading the way in the fight for abortion rights *and* torture! Remember: the important thing is to put ideology before the actual teaching of the Church. That, increasingly, is what “being an American Catholic” means in this day and age. It matters little which ideology you prefer. Either one will have cogent critiques of the other that will fill you with the warm sense of assurance that Your Tribe is both Smart and Good and They are both... Read more
He is fighting brain cancer. Father, hear our prayer and grant Michael the grace of healing in body, soul and spirit through our Lord Jesus Christ, fully present in the Eucharist and in the prayers of your people. Mother Mary, pray for him! St. Luke, pray for his caregiversw and all who love him! Read more

At one point in The Greatest Show on Earth, he records—at somewhat tedious length—the transcript of an interview he gave to a not very well-informed antievolutionist by the name of Wendy Wright. Again and again, Wright asserts that there is no fossil evidence of... Read more
No Rise in CO2 in 150 years. Dunno if it’s accurate or not. But until the globe actually starts warming, I’m not gonna worry about it too much. Update: judging from my combox chatter, it looks like the spin being put on the study is rubbish from the global warming skeptic clan. Read more
people want to know what you think when guys like Cardinal Schonborn go to Medugorje. Well, I’m not quite sure what to think, mostly because the only reportage I can find on it tends to come from Medugorje zealots who are perfectly certain the alleged apparitions are legit and who therefore regard his visit as a quasi-papal imprimatur. I don’t know why Schonborn went there. I don’t know how much of what is reported by the Medugorje zealots is accurate.... Read more
