I, for one, have loyally soldiered on through the jungle of plot twists and bafflement that is LOST, telling myself with increasing vehemence-intended-to-compensate-for-wavering-faith that it’s all going to resolve in a deeply satisfactory way that will not leave me shouting, “That’s it? That’s *all*?” As a token of my good faith in the ability of the LOST storytellers to tie up all the loose ends and not give us a lame-o resolution to it all, I present the Spanish language... Read more

I’ve been watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer on DVD lately. First impressions: Joss Whedon can write rings around everybody else. Second impression: Dickens lives! By that I mean, Whedon seems to have hit on Dickens’ formula. Create a character you can invest a lot of empathy in, then spend the series visiting unbearable pain on that character. Is there any end to Buffy’s World O’Hurt? Secondarily, I note that one of Whedon’s more fetching habits is to make his villains... Read more

I so want Kevin O’Brien to be billed “Old Dude on the Floor“. But then, I’ve always been partial to my nephew’s description of me as “Scary Psycho Killer with a Gun”. Read more

One by Stratford Caldecott (a very nice and brilliant man whom I was honored to meet some years ago at a Chesterton conference in Minneapolis. He told a marvelously garbled joke that still crack me up). The other by David Schindler, who is also a very good man and way smarter than I’ll ever be. Unfortunately, I’ve never had the pleasure of hearing him mangle a joke. Read more

Dearest lickspittle obsequious sycophants: Since Bush III’s expansion of our efforts to fulfil the promise of the Bush II administration will be pre-empting A Charlie Brown Christmas, I bid you to watch the Snoopy Happy Dance and groove to Linus and Lucy by Vince Guaraldi: That is all! Read more

Down below, I spoke of the Lifesite rumpus over Benedict vs. Harry Potter as “lies” and said that “the Lifesite scam was a mendacious misrepresentation”. I do regard Lifesite’s treatment of the matter as a gross misrepresentation of Pope Benedict and a silly embarrassment to the Church. In this, I basically agree with Jimmy Akin’s assessment of how they mishandled the matter. That said, I think, upon reflection that I should not have called these gross misrepresentations “lies” nor “mendacious”... Read more

…that when all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. Sigh. Genesis is not a science book. It is not interested in scientific questions. It is not trying to answer science questions in the least. It is an extraoardionarily sophisticated piece of literature, but not sophisticated in ways immediately amenable to technology-minded moderns. It must be read on its terms, not on ours. Read more

First, there’s this jolly review that makes me feel all snuggly happy! Second, there this podcast interview with your truly. This is just Part One. Part Two will be up later. Oh! And a reader writes from the Netherlands: Thank you for your books. I really enjoyed them, for two reasons. First they are a welcome addition to my Apologetics Course, in which I can refer to them as ‘further reference literature’. Second: you make me enjoy theology again. Instead... Read more
