Meditations on Food

Meditations on Food September 23, 2013

Thinking about Romans 14:12-15: The common application is for those who have adopted restricted diets (particular meats or no meats at all, reduced/rejected sugar consumption, processed foods, paleo, etc). While this passage certainly does apply to that group, what if we flipped the demographic on its head? What would that look like?

What if we applied this principle to those who parade their Christian liberty to consume highly processed foods? To those who sing the praises of shopping at mega stores instead of buying locally? To those who intentionally drink pop in front of abstainers?

I’m  not saying one group is better than the other, indeed, I’d argue that both extremes are inappropriate. I don’t have the philosophy of food science + God mastered, but I’m thinking about it which is why you see posts like this. Food is a gift, but like all gifts, if you don’t use them the way they are intended to be used, they can become curses. Whip all this in with the understanding that we live in a fallen world with broken bodies, but also with the knowledge that our number of days have already been determined and it seems prudent to strive for knowledge and understanding about all this. Thoughts?
