The Stillness of the Heart

The Stillness of the Heart May 10, 2017

When we take the time to still our heart, we discover how many of our thoughts and how much of our lives are dominated by worry and fear. However, it is in the stillness of the heart that we can evaluate the validity of the apprehension we perceive and feel. Resting in the silence, we can reflect and contemplate that our worries and concerns most of the time are way out of proportion to reality.

We must learn in the stillness to let go of our pressing need for control over our life and future which is the root of our suffering. Jesus tells us not to worry or let our hearts be troubled. His words bring comfort and hope in the swirling thoughts that storm our life. It is essential we observe our thoughts but not identify with them otherwise fear, and worry will continue to terrorize our lives. Pause for a moment and let the peace of Christ still your heart.

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.” John 14:1 NLT
