I have no taste for conspiracy theories. Now conspiracies happen. No doubt. But also much less often than their advocates believe.

And, more importantly, it is my observation that those who get sucked into the grander and more complex conspiracy theories such as are found in the events around 9/11 and the assassination of John F. Kennedy, frequently find themselves spiralling into a vortex that begins at some point to look a lot like madness.

Today is the anniversary of the death of John Kennedy.

Personally at this distance I find it generally more helpful to think of that moment of hope that was this young president’s election, and the dreams that began to be articulated. While on this particular day, not forgetting the attendant dangers when new visions are being spoken…

It is hard for me to not think of this most recent election, and how similar hopes have once again bubbled up in many hearts.

And those attendant dangers.

But, shadowed as all life is, I find myself mostly thinking of dreams, and possibilities…

And my wishes for this republic and the world.
