This is a tough one to acknowledge, and also to fight. When offering salah, it’s not uncommon to have thoughts like these run through one’s mind:

– Remembering something that you otherwise just couldn’t recall
– A catchy song is suddenly stuck in your head

– Thinking of how you should have responded to so-and-so or such-and-such
– All the things you need to do, and what you’re going to do right after this salah
– The upcoming season finale of your favorite show
– Thinking of a loved one or the person you have a crush on
– And the list goes on…

The reason this is all significant is because it shows us what our mind and heart are prioritizing over God in that moment. It’s a natural human weakness to be distracted during salah, but we should always try to work on it. A few ways to do this are to remember Allah as much as possible in our free time by making du’a, doing dhikr, reading Qur’an, and listening to religious lectures.

The next one (on page 4) shows how salah can connect us to others…
