this is the church i pastor. nothing pretty to look at. looks like a carpet warehouse. but we realize we are very lucky to even have a building. most churches don’t, considering the world at large. the building is very, very functional. there is nothing holy about it. or i should say that it is no more holy than, say, your house is. but it does the job! sparkling blue sky… in saint john that’s rare. inside is the worship area. as you can see, percussion plays an important role. lots of drums, bongos, cymbals, you name it. we have many gifted musicians. several worship leaders. i like that. we encourage artistic creativity, and that seems to provide an atmosphere of experimenting with new things. i also like that. we stand in the center there when we preach or lead worship or even give announcements. then there’s my study. that’s where i spend a lot of my time. nothing fancy about that either. functional. there’s a leather couch just off to the left. nice. the leather office chair is also nice. i sit there while talking with people who sit in the pink chairs opposite. i usually leave those conferences having learned more than the people who came in for help. then there’s the scary picture of me. this is what i look like when i spend hours at a time with my head in a book studying things like science and theology and refecting on the artful life. notice my lower lip. i’ve always been accused of being a pouter, but it is just the face God graced me with.
