Healthy relationships practice intimacy. Openness and honesty are crucial. The problem with this though is that you’re going to hear everything. And sometimes it’s going to hurt and cause you to worry. You’re going to hear things you’d rather not hear and learn things you’d rather not know. It can get very uncomfortable, messy and even scary. If you’re a parent of a teenager that tells you everything, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

So lots of people will talk intimacy, encourage openness and applaude honesty, but won’t really practice it. There are limitations, and we learn pretty quickly where the boundaries are.
