prayer from the cell: disappointment

This is one of the main voices of Christianity and Christians. Maybe the main voice. And it should be. It is one of the main voices of the bible. Everything from the delay of the Parousia to the crashing of our own personal sense of justice… what should be compared to what actually is… gather to give voice to our bewilderment, confusion and disappointment.

The bible says that Jesus endured the cross for the joy set before him. And Paul writes about the hope of joy. It is as though joy is our possession, but a promised possession.

How many times have we said, “But you promised”?
