midsummer’s winter walk

midsummer’s winter walk

It’s a sunny day here. The boats are out on the river. People are taking their dogs for walks. Children are playing. Motorcycles motor past. Beautiful. This painting is a contrast between what it is actually like today and what it will be like a few months from now.

It got me thinking about another contrast… between what I have now and what I could have. I was thinking about Jesus. His ministry began popular and concluded obscure. It started successful and ended in failure. He started with family, friends and followers but ended with alone alongside other criminals. Everyone fled and then he was dead.

But I still have my family. My wife Lisa. My children Joshua (24), Jesse (22) and Casile (19). They are faithful friends and strong supporters. They believe in me and encourage me. It’s chilling to think of being completely alone.
