I’m exhausted. Lisa and I have been staying at the hospital on shifts with Jesse. Our semi-normal lives have been suspended while we try to get Jesse back to health. You might ask why the parents of a 20 year old man have been babysitting him 24/7. I’ll tell you. In a nutshell, we’ve had to advocate for him and decent basic care every step of the way. It’s been a grueling battle. He began feeling ill last Thursday night.... Read more

Have you ever been in a gathering where this is pronounced and you’re not feeling that way at all? It is impossible to expect a every last person in the community to feel the same and manifest the same emotions. But the pressure to conform to the ideal is usually enormous in community settings. The art of nurturing communities that are authentic, expressive and honest can in turn create communities that are multi-faceted, diverse, interesting and humane. I am certain... Read more

Yup, this chicken was swimming along just fine until he was informed of his identity! Which reminds me of all the identities that others have given me. At some point the decision has to be made to just go for it, regardless of what others say. There was Moses: “Aren’t you just a murderer?” There was Deborah: “Aren’t you just a woman?” There was David: “Aren’t you just a shepherd boy?” There was Amos: “Aren’t you just a gardener?” There... Read more

I had a horrifying experience this week with my iPhone. I love my iPhone. As I’ve said, out of the numbers of cell phones I’ve had, this is by far the best. By miles! Anyway, one day this week we had tons of snow drop on us. So I went to the church early to shovel the snow away from all the exits. After I was done and sitting at my desk, I noticed that my iPhone was missing. Crap!... Read more

I live on the Kennebacasis River. It is beautiful all year round. Today the snow-kiters were out again. At least half a dozen of them. I caught a photograph of this guy catching some air. He was at least 9 or 10 feet off the ground at one point. My little Nikon Coolpix P5000 takes great shots. I can capture action almost immediately, without any perceivable delay. Watching these guys was an encouraging analogy of taking advantage of what is... Read more

I know. I’m a weirdo. I had this image and concept flash across the barren landscape of my brain last night just before I entered unconsciousness. I had to get up and jot it down. Creativity! Blessing or a curse? I enjoyed putting it together though. The perfect body! To be honest, I’ve seen more perfect bodies. But this one makes me chuckle. Hope it does you too. Read more

If we have been brought into a wide and spacious place, then why is every attempt made to limit us to narrow and confined places? Ever since I can remember there were constant attempts to break me, bridle me, saddle me, drill me and ride me. So many things have the tendency to restrict our experience, our thinking, and our life. Instead of helping us to fall more in love and to appreciate the world and all the beauty that... Read more

I really don’t mind emoticons. I know some bloggers and messengers do. Not me. I’ve been blogging for a few years now and the creativity of some people to come up with their emoticons amazes me. Some I can’t even figure out. The commentators on my blog, for the most part, use them sparingly. But again, I don’t mind. Keep emoting!! Read more

Yesterday I went for my first professional massage ever. The reason I was going was because of my Tinitus, a high-pitched ringing in my left ear that I experience 24/7. The only thing the regular doctors have to say is “find a support group!” Yes, Tinitus has support groups because, apparently, the incessant ringing drives some people mad and some even commit suicide. I don’t want to kill myself. Some might argue that I’m already mad. Sometimes it is so... Read more
