Richard Handler, the CBC radio’s “Ideas” man, wrote what I think is a fair and balanced report on the God vs. Science debate. Take a look see here. There’s one sentence though that I’d like to comment on: “And when He wants, He can break the laws of physics and create a miracle.” I prefer the theologian Torrance’s idea as is expressed in his treatment of the resurrection: “In fulfillment of his eternal design God has acted in the resurrection... Read more

A good friend of mine sent me a link this this video clip. As soon as the video clip started I became painfully aware of the video creator’s tactic. It’s the same old boring straw-man. “Straw-man” is a valid form of argument. First, you set up a caricature of your opposition. You do this because your opposition is so complex that it is necessary to assemble a composite of your opposition. That’s the straw-man. Secondly, you attack that in hopes... Read more

I want to discuss the pastor’s struggle. I should have the same mind as Jesus. But, as this cartoon reveals, it’s difficult for pastors to resist resentment towards people. Jesus ministered freely without concern for his success. I, however, gauge my ministry’s success by attendance, the size of the offering, the number of compliments I receive, or even the spiritual health of the people. I’m convinced that we as pastors must divest ourselves of this concern for success and its... Read more
