Stories that matter in a way that matters

Stories that matter in a way that matters 2016-05-17T13:27:41-05:00

There is no shortage of story in our culture, and the desire for story and communication seems to be insatiable. Not all stories matter and even when they do the big picture seems to get lost in the unending pool of opinion and knee-jerk reactions that have no tolerance for reading and listening well. It would take a great amount of hubris to think one person can reverse that trend or that the world “needs” one more blogger. However, I desire to speak to this cultural moment with a light that opens up the conversation to the big picture, the one that matters.

Not just any light will do, the light of Christ is what I hope to represent and portray. The light of Christ should offer a hopeful perspective. This perspective demands that we listen well and posture ourselves to each other even better. In short the endless chatter does not need a perpetuation of the norm, but rather for stories that matter told in a way that matters. These stories and narratives require nuance, the need to speak well, without generalization and reductionist thinking. Christ honoring narratives will require us to empathize, listen, consider, and open ourselves to others in connection, without treating them as an “other.”

We are fellow image bearers and inherit the common graces of this life from a good and sovereign God. What I hope for here is an advancement of the cultural conversations we have without resorting to the common trend of rhetoric. Changing the conversation is a tall task and not the best way to get attention on the internet. However, within the sphere that God gives me, I hope to offer narrative and nuance concerning Christ and culture. Hopefully and in faith this moves the conversation forward in a way that honors the goodness of God and acknowledges his reign on this earth.

Welcome!
