5. Tell transformational stories. Churches often get frustrated with guests, citing their lack of spirituality or commitment as the reason they won’t get involved. Most of the time, those excuses are a invalid. When a guest comes to your church, they are already predisposed towards wanting to get involved in your church. It’s why they came. They didn’t have to get up early. They didn’t have to get the family ready. They wanted to come. Now they’re trying to figure out if you have what they’re looking for. Everyone wants to be a part of something bigger than themselves. One of the reasons guests move on is because they don’t see anything bigger than themselves at your church. If your church is merely a collection of programs and services, they can find that on their own elsewhere. Guests are looking for God, for the divine, for something bigger than their life. One of the greatest ways you can win guests’ hearts is to be intentional to tell transformational stories. Tell real life, modern examples of how God is changing lives in your church. That’s what guests came their for: hope, that if someone else could change, perhaps they can as well. Become a great storyteller, and watch those guests stick around.
