Don’t let this opportunity go to waste. A new year has started, and you haven’t screwed it up that badly yet! Set high goals for yourself this year. (Here are 3 Keys to Making Your New Year’s Resolutions Stick This Year). As you’re looking ahead with optimism to 2016, here are 7 types of goals you should set for yourself:

1. Health. This one’s the one we most normally think of. Eat better. Exercise more. Whatever you have to do, get your body to a place of health. The Bible calls your body a temple. If you aren’t healthy, then nothing else will get accomplished this year.

Sample goals: Lose 10 pounds. Exercise at least three times a week.

2. Family. Your family is your life. If you lose with your family, you lose. What’s a goal that you can set to build a healthier and stronger family this year?

Sample goals: Eat dinner with the family two nights per week. Go on a week-long vacation this summer. Date night with the spouse twice a month.

3. Financial. How are you stewarding the resources God has given you? How can you not only adequately provide for yourself but those around you?

Sample goals: Get out of debt. Save $1000 for a rainy day. Start tithing 10% of my income to the local church.

4. Educational. Whether you’re in school or not, you should never stop learning. How will you grow and expand your mind this year?

Sample goals: Finish my education. Take a course at a local college. Read 10 books this year. Read 30 minutes a day.

5. Habit to start. What’s something that you want to do but haven’t been able to yet? What’s a good habit that you can start this year?

Sample goals: Get up 30 minutes early to read my Bible and pray. Take a day off every week. Join a small group at my church.

6. Habit to stop. What’s an addiction you’re ready to give up? (And more importantly, who are you willing to invite into your life to keep you accountable to break that addiction?)

Sample goals: Quit smoking. Stop looking at porn. Limit myself to 15 minutes a day of social media.

7. Spiritual. What’s a goal that you can set that will nourish and strengthen your soul?

Sample goals: Read through the Bible this year. Go to church at least 3 weekends a month. Start serving at my local church.

Whatever goals you set, I pray you’ll be able to meet them. Here’s to a great 2016!!
