Last month I set out a list of personal growth goals for 2013. My plan is to update them once a month to share my progress. More than anything, this blog serves as a digital accountability partner to ensure that I’m pushing forward towards my goals. I pray that whatever goals you set for yourself in 2013, you’re moving forward to meet them. Remember from yesterday, persistence is the magic bullet to success.
Mental Growth
1. Read 26 books and write a review on it (on my blog) with lessons learned. I’ve read two great books so far: The Circle Maker and Lincoln: Rise to Greatness.
2. Listen to 150 podcasts/sermons and keep notes of what I’ve learned (via Evernote). 13 podcasts so far. I’ve been really enjoying a series on Proverbs by Willow Creek Community Church.
3. (re)Memorize the Book of John. Chapters 1 and 2 locked in so far.
Spiritual Growth
4. Write out the Book of Proverbs by hand. Chapters 1 and 2 written out so far. Enjoying the process.
5. Read the Old Testament one time and the New Testament four times. I’ve read every day in January. Through Exodus in the Old Testament, and finishing up the Gospels (the first time) in the New Testament.
6. Log a solid week (168 hours) on my knees in prayer (quality time is found in the midst of quantity time). 12 hours and 40 minutes so far. My knees are a little sore, but it’s been a great discipline for me.
Personal Growth
7. Blog 250 times to share what I’m learning about life (I always learn better when I’m teaching it to someone else). 20 blogs written and counting. Thanks for reading!
8. Write an ebook. Not yet, but I’ve got the genesis of an idea for the book. Now I’m beginning to research the topic through Scripture.
9. Miss out on 2 weeks of sleep (336 hours) to accomplish my goals (getting up 1.5 hours early most days). I’ve lost a day of sleep so far (24 hours and 15 minutes).
Physical Growth (Health)
10. Log in one solid week of exercise (168 hours). 9 hours and 30 minutes. Need to step up my routine to log my hours this year.
11. Do 50,000 pushups in 2013. 3,923 pushups in January. Probably should have done an extra 77 pushups and just rounded it out to 4000.
12. Meet minimum requirements for Army boot camp once a month (to wage spiritual war I need to be in good physical health). I’m pulling my info from an army website with three basic requirements. I’ll do it sometime this weekend.
