Friends:
This is from my student Marie Guirguis, who is from Egypt, shared by permission. It gives us a peek into the afflictions facing Copts, who are Egyptian Christians.
Gerry
Thank you so much for your warm feelings and your prayers. My family and I are safe here in the U.S., as well as my church family. As for my family in Egypt, they are on high alert, guarding their houses and properties in shifts. They have consolidated all our family members to one location which we deemed safest. We are praying for them and urging them to come to the states, but due to our asylum status we cannot request invitations for them. Our paper work is being expedited so that we may gain citizenship and begin our family’s invitation process. As you know they cannot go to the embassy and request any kind of Visa (tourism, travel, work or asylum) right now not only because of the unrest in Egypt but also because of their Religion. Copts are essentially being held captive in Egypt right now. So more prayers and supplications would be so appreciated. We as a church have also begun writing to our senators and representatives for their intercessions for our families, but you know how slow that process can be. The power that we have right now is in numbers, the more people aware of the situation, the more they can do about it.
Pray that Christ will save his people in Egypt.
