The news we don’t want to hear

The news we don’t want to hear 2015-10-23T06:04:48-04:00

Amidst all the hoopla about Obama’s detente with Cuba, encouraged by Pope Francis, and more recently the Pope’s visit to Cuba, we heard all too little in the news about the Women in White.

These are brave mothers of journalists and other political prisoners in horrendous prisons in Cuba.  Every Sunday since 2003 they have been leading quiet protests of prayer in Havana against these egregious abuses of human rights by the Castro brothers.

The results?  They have been routinely beaten by Castro’s goons, and from time to time put in these horrendous jails themselves.

The Pope failed to meet with them.  The US State Department ignores them when it names its annual Women of Courage award winners.

Our media does not want to hear about them.  Nor do most Americans, it seems.

The administration also ignores the many women beaten and killed by Iran.  And the Christian pastor being tortured in an Iranian prison.

We should not forget these brave men and women of conscience in these two countries that are in the news regularly.  Or think that the new openings to these countries have softened the brutal treatment which their leaders mete out to their most courageous citizens.

Here is more.
