May the 4th Be With You – & a Pallet Bed Tutorial

May the 4th Be With You – & a Pallet Bed Tutorial May 4, 2016

It’s the 4th of May and it’s a Star Wars fan’s dream day.

A whole day where we can release our inner geek and greet other like minded fans with “May the 4th be with you!”

Is your house full of Star Wars fans like ours? I have to confess that I didn’t not grow up a Star Wars fan. It wasn’t until I met my gorgeous husband that he introduced me to the the trilogy.

Now this is a funny story.

We met when we were young college students with dreams of musical stardom in our eyes. As most late teenagers, I learned that my wisdom teeth had to be removed. A long weekend of recovery was ahead of me and my husband thought that this would be the perfect time to watch the Trilogy.

Bless his heart.

I barely caught any glimpse of that film, between the nausea and drowsiness from the pain meds, I think I saw a total of an hour of all 3 movies combined.

It wasn’t until my gentle giant came into my life that I was full on, totally immersed into the Star Wars realm. Everything was Star Wars from age 2 on. And then came his brother, and the education of Mommy continued.

I am now an official Star Wars Fan, thanks to the boys in my house. If I had to participate in a Star Wars Trivia contest, I know I’d be some tough competition.

When we had our Vegas house, we created a Star Wars Room for my oldest that was just dreamy!

How cool of a mom am I?
A floating hovercraft bed kinda Mom!
There are a few decor moments where I feel like I rocked it and this was one of them. My son thought we were the coolest parents on the block.  We built him a platform bed and ran rope lights underneath that acted as a nightlight and a spaceship to any Star Wars destination of your dreams. {platform bed tutorial here}
I also made this quilt from my son’s old jeans, t-shirts and twin sheets.
But sadness has crept in and my now 12 year old is ready for a bigger boy room. So away into the hope chest went this quilt made of memories and I did shed a little tear.
He doesn’t want his baby-fied quilt, but he also isn’t quite ready to release his Star Wars fandom.
While I love the dormers in his room, it creates an awkward space, especially with that odd attic access door, but it’s the only usable wall to put the bed.
Remember last week when I shared my blanket ladder from that pile of wood?
Well we were at it again and created a Rustic Headboard from leftover scrap wood.
It has a pallet like feel to it with a touch of industrial charm.
Now here’s where blogger fail enters : I forgot to take pics of the build!
The assembly is so similar to my blanket ladder where we just cut even pieces and screwed them together to look like this!
To give the room a bit of a more industrial feel, I found some free printables online of Star Wars blueprints.
I took some existing frames, removed the artwork and added the printout.
Yes, I said printout! That is black craft paper with printer paper on top and it looks awesome!

We added some industrial elements to his side table. It’s the start of a Preteen’s room with touches of his favorite theme. We aren’t quite finished with this room, but we had to share to celebrate the day!

Do you have a Star Wars themed room? I’d love to see it! Be sure to share a link in the comments below.

Have an awesome day and May the 4th be with you!
