Cabinet Door Makeover Revisited

Cabinet Door Makeover Revisited
2 years ago today, my most popular post was launched and it still gets the most hits today, so I’d thought I’d revisit it.

I started with a cabinet door I found at a garage sale.  I painted it white and distressed it.

I printed out the phrase I wanted, which was our wedding year, and sized it according to the door.

I took a piece of charcoal from my husband’s art supplies and shaded the underside of the paper where the printing is.  You are basically making DIY trace or transfer paper. A regular pencil would work fine, too.

Find something pointed to trace over the printing with.  I used a retractable pencil without the lead.
Begin tracing your image.

It leaves a light template for you to fill in.
Continue until you are finished, checking your work as you go.
I am not a painter and so admire those who can paint by hand.  My grandfather used to decorate store windows and I loved watching him paint.  Unfortunately, I missed that gene!
I used a paint pen or sometimes a felt tip marker, depending on the look you want.

Fill it all in.  This is so easy!! And it doesn’t take long, either.  I finished my tracing/painting in one afternoon.

Now, I have to put in my obvious mistake.  Did you spot it?

There shouldn’t be an apostrophe! The Fancher’s…….what?  I didn’t see my mistake for almost a year, and it still isn’t fixed. The pic above is how it looks today.  That bookcase is one of my next projects, so stay tuned!

It is, by far, my most complemented item in my house.   I even made one as a wedding gift for our friends! (Like the Hunk’s face in this pic?)
It’s so easy, and you can do it, too!  Only – leave off the apostrophe!
