Being a volcanic archipelago, Japan is a country of onsen (hot springs), and bathing in the springs is an ancient form of popular recreation there. Chilly autumn weather means that the Japanese particular like soaking in the hot water during this season. Britain is somewhat lacking in natural hot springs, but you might take this opportunity to enjoy long hot soaks in the bath – you could even ritualise it through candles and the use of salt herbs put in the bath water, as a form of purification and meditation. You could also treat yourself to a day at a spa, or even consider going to Britain’s natural hot spring in Bath – which is of course what the ancient Pagans of this country used to do!
