Redemption Church Logo – Designed by Matt Nagel
My friend Matt Nagel died last week & left a great number of people so very sad, myself included. I was reminded with his passing that Matt did all of the branding work for the church where I pastor. Matt worked hard to come up with an aesthetically pleasing logo we could embrace for years to come; one that would say something about who we are as a church. This is what he came up with. We love it and are left with a constant reminder of Matt’s heart for the kingdom. Here’s the explanation of the elements Matt & I came up with:
CELTIC CROSS: the Celtic cross is a very recognizable Christian symbol that signals a touch of mystery. This symbol points to our ancient/future worship style while establishing from first glance that we are a Christian church.
REDEMPTION IN ALL 4 DIRECTIONS: God is redeeming the person’s relationships in 4 directions: our relationship to God, ourselves, other people, and the world around us. These four directions are hinted at by the 4 arms of the cross.
RAYS: the rays which emanate from both the cross and the circle are meant to suggest the idea of “mission.” Our church does not exist for its own sake—but to be a blessing to the world. The rays signify the power of the cross radiating in and through us and out into the world with God’s redemptive light and life.
CIRCLES: The inner circle element of the Celtic cross symbolizes the unity of the people of God. The outer circle fittingly surrounds the cross, symbolizing the unity of the Triune God perichoresis, or mutual indwelling of the persons of the Trinity.
DISTRESSED EFFECT: the logo has slight distress marks all over. This is meant to convey that the Christian life is messy. We are not meant to clean ourselves up in order to approach Christ or the church. We must come as we are…but we don’t stay that way!
FONT & COLORS: Red connotes passion, strength, energy and fire. Gray holds connotations of innovation & style, depth & purpose.
