Ramadhan 2016 – Day 6 (Al-Anaam)

After Quran gives us four long chapters detailing the system of utopia, it takes us back to the principle of tawheed/monotheism. Quran’s version of monotheism is not a theological theory, it is rather an experience. From the very first verse, rabubiyah/lordship is mentioned. It is also mentioned in the last verse (Vs 165). This shows that we must build this relationship exclusively. That is monotheism.

This chapter also mentions Ibrahim twice (6/74) and (6/161). This is no coincidence. The story of Ibrahim is very closely linked to the perfection of deen. This chapter shows us the journey towards that monotheism (6/74-83).

This is also the chapter which links the Quran to monotheism (6/19). The Quran is mentioned as ‘this al-quran’ but also as ‘this book’ twice (6/91 and 155). This is also exclusive to chapter 6.

This chapter also details the straight and establishing path (6/151-153). This are the key principles to make musa receive the book in completion (6/154) and thus understand the Quran (6/155). Ibrahim’s way of life is inextricably connected with this (6/161-164).
