The Daily Trinity: The Ground Zero Mosque, Obama's Dwindling Support, and the Deepwater Disaster

ECCLESIAL

1.  The consequences of workaholic pastors?  Or the consequences of the extraordinary, unrealistic expectations set upon their shoulders in contemporary society and church?  We link, you decide.  David Murray explains.

2. Our discussion on The Future of Evangelicalism launched yesterday, and will continue over the course of this week and next.

3.  Collin Hansen at The Gospel Coalition examines reasons why Christians might support the construction of the “mosque” (or Islamic community center, or however the building is defined) near Ground Zero.  Relatedly, Bob Roberts, a pastor whose outreach to leaders of other faiths has deeply impressed me, explains why Christians should drop their opposition.

POLITICAL:

1.  Support for President Obama reaches its lowest point yet: forty-one percent.

2.  Before it was sealed on July 15, the Deepwater Horizon disaster spewed 5 million barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.  Unbelievable.

3.  This is bizarre.  A church sponsored a demonstration (from a police officer) on violence among youths.  The same church staged a fight to break out in the crowd, and the officer was injured when he intervened.  The pastor explained that the church wanted to “test” how a white police officer would respond to the altercation, in the hope of producing a teachable moment on racism in law enforcement.  The pastor also dismissed the police officer’s injury.  Hmm.
