Obedience

Obedience

My blogging this week has been lame because I'm not really supposed to be blogging at all. I'm supposed to be spending every spare minute working on a talk I'm scheduled to give tomorrow night at BU's intervarsity chapter large group meeting. I know it's not called large group any more, sob. That's just me being old. My topic is obedience, because they all, all those wonderful, clever BU IV students hate me. I know this because every time I'm asked by one of them what I'm taking about, general laughter breaks out. Last time I had to talk about humility. You see the prejudice against me. Anyway, spoiler alert, my talk is pretty awful. Being obedient, and talking about it, rots. I tried to tell this to the very nice person who made my hair look a lot better yesterday. “I have to have a haircut right now,” I said, “because I'm giving a talk, and the talk is bad, really bad, so please make me look beautiful.” As she whacked at my hair she described the disobedience of her own children, the talking back and the screaming, the “Hey! You stop shouting at me! I'm the mother!” card she has to continually pull.

Then I came home to this face.

This child, hmmm, how shall we say without starting an Internet firestorm? She is constantly needing a little something, if you know what I mean. She should be wearing a big sticker that says “Hello, My Name Is Defiance”. She is in a constant state of shock at all the bad things coming her way, all the repetitions of, “I told you to ______” and the thinning and narrowing of second chances. Justice has been getting swifter and swifter as her terrible attitude has been ruining all our lives. Poor child. I know exactly how she feels. I Hate being told no. Hate it so much. On the other hand, the tyranny of a four year old is pretty insufferable for right minded people.

So, on that note, I will apply to myself a heart of wisdom and stop doing that which I want to do, blog, and start doing that which I really really want to avoid just a little longer, write my talk. And if you feel like if, you could pray against my upcoming public humiliation.
