Lamb and Lists

Lamb and Lists

Having heard there was lamb at Price Rite, Elphine and I popped over there yesterday and gathered both a leg, a boneless roast, and, because we were saving so much money, a large bag of shrimp. The lamb was halal, but I laid it gently over my large package of pork sausages anyway, and the shrimp over that. Freedom in Christ tralala. And we raced in and out of Target and Khols, where we noticed they make it extremely hard to leave, by putting large racks of clothes straight in the aisles, and the customer service way at the back.

“They don’t want you to return anything,” Elphine observed as we fairly ran, trying not to bang into various displays, “they want you to walk back through all the stuff.”

“Yes,” I said, “and I bet it works, look at all these nice toys.”

It’s too shameless, Khols. They put a ridiculously high price on the tag, but then you can look up at the little screen and see that the item is half that, and then when you go to pay, the amount that is displayed is not what you owe but what you would owe if you opened a charge account.

“Oh, I don’t want to do that,” I said, “I would just like to pay with cash.”

“Well,” said the lady sorrowfully, “you won’t get points if you don’t open an account. One point each time and then when you get a hundred points,”

I interrupted her in horror, “Oh!” I said, “I never go shopping. I would never get to a hundred points!”

She looked even more sad and put Romulus’ real tie (oh my word, he’s going to look so cute in a real tie and an old man sweater, man I wish I hadn’t cut his hair) in a tiny bag and, practically weeping, wished us a good day.

So, everything is shaping up pretty nicely. The girls are all going to be decked out in pretty dresses and hats. Today we’re going out to look for shoes. Aloucious is going to wear something boring and suitable for his boring age, as is fitting and right. My easter menu is pretty well in hand. I’ve got lots more food to think through for Holy Week itself but I’ve slotted all the hard stops into my giant Calender. Of course, I am still faced with the rest of this week. That’s not quite such a thrill.
