7 Very Quick Takes

7 Very Quick Takes January 15, 2021

It is Friday, so that’s pretty great. I’m going to wildly just fling a lot of links and stuff here because I’ve got stuff to do.

One

Ralinda, Liza, and I interviewed Alisa Childers for the Stand Firm podcast. You can listen to it here. We had so much fun. Tried not to embarrass myself with my fan-girlness but then gave up.

Two

This is my favorite meme of the week. I’ve been on a Lewis binge, so that’s probably why I laughed for fully five minutes with real tears pouring down my face.

Three

So far I’ve managed to read/listen to a few books in 2021. I’ve starting light and fluffy with The Problem of Pain, Cocktail Times, A Room with a View, Process: The Writing Lives of Great Authors, At The Villa of Reduced Circumstances, and That Hideous Strength. Five stars all around to everything. And I’m trucking along through An Unsuitable Attachment, The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self, The Revolt of the Elites and the Betrayal of Democracy, and Ten Reasons Christians Must Join a Local Church. So far they’re all lovely and fascinating.

Four

I think that reading lots and lots of books in 2021 should be the new virtue signal. It’s lots more interesting than all the other kinds of righteousness one could display before humanity because at least we could all get a reading list out of it. I was scrolling through Apartment Therapy on Instagram for a second yesterday, looking for rooms with lots of books, and I couldn’t find any. People put “objets” on their shelves, mostly, which seems to me a huge waste of precious space. On the other hand, I read somewhere that people are buying lots of books for their zoom backgrounds, and that also seems foolish. Your zoom background should be a good reflection of who you are.

Five

I love this so so much. It’s that guy with the Viking hat and the flag face paint explaining all the things he believes. So great. I watched it like four times.

Six

Also read this. Really interesting. I don’t know if I’m willing to be that apocalyptic, but I do feel like both sides of the “aisle” are being singularly unwise, as if there are no consequences for all the things that they have all done this past year.

Seven

Sorry to be so short! Got so much to do! Go check out more takes!
