Today is fake Epiphany which puts me in mind that one day or other the week before last marked the Feast of the Holy Innocents. It, like everything else on the calendar, passed me by and I only noticed it when it is too late. Somehow celebrating everything 97 hours after everyone else seems too lame. But I want to say something about the Holy Innocents  anyway, even if it is too late, because I came across a heartbreaking foolishness–this... Read more

There are still lots of thing that I need to put away, now that Christmas is finally over and the endless season of king cakes has begun. Wait, that’s a lie. I used the word “still” which probably gave the impression that I had, perhaps, already been putting some things away. That is not technically, nor literally, nor allegorically, nor metaphorically true. The truth, which I am waiting around for the moment of it setting me free, is that I’ve... Read more

There’s a brilliant article making the rounds imploring women’s ministries to stop telling women that they’re beautiful. This is quite a bold request, and one that I applaud. It’s true, the gospel is first that you are Not Beautiful, and only later that God can make you so. I do think we need to spend more time thinking about beauty, though, not less. I’m wondering if one reason women are told all the time that they’re beautiful in Christian realms... Read more

The Grandparents are leaving, which is utterly tragic. And the house is, what you might call, Trashed. And the new fresh pile of backed up school work is splayed out all across the school room floor. And there are some kids with some colds. Either that or they are just being ornery. So how bout some pictures of the last week? I hope you’ll forgive the lack of verbosity. I have a child tangled around my neck, dragging me down... Read more

As I said on the podcast this Monday, I was sort of hoping that on January first we would all begin to talk about something new and fresh and different, emphasis on the different. But as I flipped wildly through Twitter that morning, you know, in preparing my mind for church (that’s a little joke) I remembered that we are all the same people that we were the night before. The reason that 2017 will be the same as 2016... Read more

I linked this fab podcast I just discovered yesterday. I feel stupid for not knowing about it earlier but I don’t really know about anything so I don’t think anyone should blame me. Anyway, it’s January 3rd, and so it’s time for me to lodge a lament. And that is that I am not in the position to buy any kind of planner or new journal this year. Long ago in the very far distant past, in a house not... Read more

HAPPY NEW YEAR! We did up a little podcast this morning. We just ramble on making fun of everyone and everything and generally having a disorganized and happy time. I’m sure it will make your whole life peachy and bright. And now on to the important matter of Links that I have been slowly storing up over the last week. First up, Wendy Alsup writes beautifully about Mary and Eve. And then something helpful and women in the church. And... Read more

I spent whole moments on twitter yesterday looking at people’s New Year resolutions. More love, less bitterness was one. Speak less, listen more was another. And then a few leaned in the magnanimous, giving, ‘let’s not worry about ourselves when the world is such a mess’ direction. Not so much about getting in shape and getting on top of the practical details of life. It’s as if we all learned, in 2016, how to answer an email right away but... Read more

Yesterday I noted the seven most wonderful things that have happened to Me Me Me in 2016, so now it’s time to turn my attention to how I’m going to improve and better myself in 2017. It’s going to be great. I’ll be a new me, just like I am today, only Better. So, in 2017 I’m going to Read all the books. All of them. Only eat healthy food and never overindulge myself ever. Do all the exercises. Become... Read more

I was busying trying to write something mean, funny and poignant about Lena Dunham (I know, I didn’t really think it could be done either) when, mid afternoon, the gorgeous Chelsen Vicari named me one of the seven rising stars in the Evangelical World. My first thought was, how was that determination made? Did they put all the evangelicals in America in a hat and I got picked? But then I remembered that for some time I have been Blogging... Read more
