One Elphine is down burning french toast. It smelled really glorious for about thirty seconds but that nice aroma has been replaced by something less amazing. She's finally convinced me to let her make breakfasts on Friday, in an official way, even though she's been doing it for quite some time in reality. I keep meaning to take more pictures of her. She's growing insanely and making us all so nervous with not looking like a child really at all... Read more

I am now truly going out of order, wandering around in the maze of scripture, hoping to find my way. I will very definitly have to go back and edit them and order them into some kind of logical space. Someday I hope to put them all under some kind of tab where they all sit together, judging my lack of faith. Until then, here is the next day. Day Twenty-Six 1 Samuel 22:2 And everyone who was in distress,... Read more

I humbled bragged yesterday on Facebook that I have a special charism for baked American summer fruit desserts and there were some who asked for the actual dessert, and some who asked for the recipe. Personally, I’d rather have everyone just turn up and eat some of whatever it is I’m baking, because I don’t really know how to say what it is that makes all the difference. It’s like the people who can make perfect deviled eggs. They hand... Read more

I know it can be Wordless Wednesday, but I don't know how to cope without words. Words for me over pictures any day. Except sometimes the picture is pretty great. It was the only in focus shot I got all night, so hysterical and keyed up was I. So baseball is over. Vestal Dental came back against Chemung Canal in the sixth inning from being three points behind, tying it up. They had to play a seventh inning. I, as... Read more

Matt had a really helpful section in his sermon on Sunday about the sovereignty of God. That's the technical language, God is in charge of everything. We can all probably say that with our lips, but in our lives, not so much–a point he made by describing Peter's sinking down into the water, even with Jesus standing right there looking at him. This kind of sinking Matt pulled together with the disciples standing on the mountain in Galilee, although, being... Read more

I’m in The Usual Monday Morning Fog. My mind is clouded with a stupid haze of tired and misremembering, in perfect contrast to the bright and clear sky. I feel, perhaps, that it would be an interesting idea to gather up my life and move forward into the the clear bright future. But maybe not. Maybe I’ll just stay here for the rest of the morning, moaning about my back. Maybe my mind will clear. Maybe it won’t. What day... Read more

Sandwiched as I am between two weddings, the sermon before, helping a tiny bit with the food later, one wedding and then another, every morning I've been hammering away on the piano at the hymn that launched me my own self down the aisle, coming as it is on nigh thirteen years as the days run so swiftly by. I tried to find a YouTube version of it but apparently no one sings it, as well they should not, because... Read more

It was as I was hustling through the hospital, having parked on the wrong side, and having had to drive round and round finding a parking space, and having already dropped everything and sped down the parkway, leaving Matt quietly sermonizing at Barnes and Noble, beat my way past the garage full of garbage to gather up a blood encrusted Baby Elspeth, plugged her into the car and was then lugging her, as a mentioned above, all the way through... Read more

I love the gray and the green together, reminding me so much of Oregon as it does. Its not that I always require sun, its that the sun should be there if everything is brown and dead, like in Mali. But if the sky is going to be gray, then everything should be green. Binghamton has got it backwards. But today is ok. And also, my rose is starting to bloom. There is a brief moment while it blooms at... Read more

1 Corinthians 13 Wedding of L and C   It is such an honor to be here, this afternoon, and to welcome all of you here, to celebrate this really beautiful thing that God is doing in bringing L and C together in marriage to each other. I know many of you have already been to church today and so you will be delighted to hear that I won’t be talking very long. But I do have a few things... Read more
