I’m over at Stand Firm today. I happened to be wandering around twitter a few days ago—I’ve been trying to collect evidence of “virtue signaling,” which is all the rage as you all know—and came across something that bothered me lots more than that. I don’t think that the author of the tweet was trying to signal anything one way or another. She had just got onto the platform onto which we all climb in order to complain about something... Read more

Thank Goodness, Sherwin Williams has released their color predictions for the next year. Coronavirus has changed all our lives, as we all know, and keep on knowing, and being told, no matter how much we all try to move on to other subjects and interests, and it turns out that being stuck inside for ages makes people want…well, color. I guess. I guess that’s what they’re saying. I read the thing twice. But they’re wanting the colors that designers mean... Read more

One of my favorite pastimes, developed in the vortex of this wretched year, is to enter into recriminations about 2020 in every conversation with everyone, no matter who they are or how long I have happened to know them. Old friends, new acquaintances, my children, online, in person—at some point the words “I hate 2020” will come out of my mouth, and then I will start listing all the things. It’s one of those horrible habits that started as a... Read more

It may be Labor Day but it’s also a Monday and after taking a whole month off we decided to live our best lives now and do a podcast after all. This week we talk about the divorce of Jen Hatmaker, how being a Cheetah is not good for the length of your marriage, how the Enneagram is not good for your spiritual life, and what numbers we both are. I’m sure it will help you find your shimmering, luminescent... Read more

I’m over at Stand Firm today… In the spirit of always being reminded that 2020 is the year that keeps on giving, I woke up in the wee hours to read this tragic news: Popular Christian author, speaker, and TV personality, Jen Hatmaker, has filed for divorce from her husband, Brandon. The 46-year-old mother of five filed papers on August 21 in Hays County  22nd District Court in Texas. The filing doesn’t give any details, other than that the fact that the case is... Read more

Well, it’s Friday. So that is something. Let’s see what we have. One I’ve been listening to Richard Rohr’s book on the Enneagram all week. I only have three and a half hours left of an interminable thirteen. He’s finally gotten to the nines, after laboriously describing one through eight, and giving the same sort of meandering introduction that he does in this talk here. I really hesitate to say anything, of course, because I know lots and lots of... Read more

I’m really sorry—it was not my intention to talk about homeschooling again. It’s a bit unsettling to have the thing that you’ve been doing for a decade or whatever, with a whole range of feelings attached, to suddenly have it come fully into the mainstream and be running into it everywhere. I keep meaning to avoid it altogether and go on to more interesting topics, but it’s in the news as everyone faces “going back” to school either at home... Read more

Me contemplating my wardrobe. I promise I will be getting to Important Blogging Matters sometime soon—there’s so much to choose from in the daily burndown of all rationality in the world, it’s so overwhelming to pick—but I have to ease back in. That is always the downfall of trying to take a break from something. Will I ever be able to do it again? Ever? Or, when I take a day or a week or a month off, will the... Read more

I’m over at Stand Firm today. Enjoy! Well, it looks like I have finally reached, or will next week, La Rentrée as the French say, the great Going Back to School in one form or another. I posted this ghastly picture on Instagram yesterday—and linked to it on Facebook and Twitter because why not, might as well. Lots of people were properly amazed by my astonishing organizational skills. What a great chart! Color-coded down to the shower! I am The... Read more

Good Morning! It is a bright, cool day in Binghamton–a welcome change from the humidity of the entire month of August. We finally climbed back onto the internet with a podcast about all the things we were happy we didn’t have to talk about all month. Things like Kenosha and Mr. Falwell and how the whole world is burning down. It’s epically long, and we round it all out with a plug for the Joel Osteen Inspirational Cube, which only... Read more
