Do You Remember?

Do You Remember? June 15, 2010

(For my sweet husband, although the rest of you may read it, too.)

  • Proposing to me over the phone?   I was sitting on the floor folding socks and underwear when you called to say “I think maybe we should go shopping for rings.”  It was my favorite phone call ever!
  • Putting together the wedding invitations with the navy ribbon through them?  What was I thinking?
  • The standoff between me and the pastor over the “Ave Maria”?  We almost had to find a new church the week before the wedding because I insisted on having it and he insisted that it had no place in a Lutheran church.  Thanks to my brother and his saxophone, we had it after all.
  • The way you smiled when my dad walked me down the aisle?  I’ve seen that same smile when our babies were born.  It’s a mixture of pure joy and pure terror.  I love it.
  • Your dad crying through the whole wedding?  He was so certain you’d made a mistake.  I’m glad he can laugh about it now.
  • My promising to obey?  I’m still working on that one.
  • That Pastor Q didn’t say “You may kiss the bride” because kissing is inappropriate in church?
  • The kiss you planted on me as soon as we got out the door?  Ooh-la-la
  • Driving away from the church in your baby blue truck just as it started to rain?
  • Our reception at the Bricktown Brewery?  I hear the food was amazing.  We will never know.
  • How hard we laughed when your grandpa teased us about someday having six children?
  • Our photographer disappearing for almost an hour during the reception?  It could only happen to us.
  • My RED fingernails?  That’ll teach the manicure lady to assume all brides want a French manicure!  Ha!
  • That the one bite of cake from when we cut it and the drink from our toast were all we had to eat or drink at the reception?  It sure was a tasty bite.
  • That we decided not to freeze the top layer, because who wants to eat year old cake?  Yuck.
  • The cloud of bubbles we walked through when we left?  Our family and friends sure can blow.
  • Watching me pull all the pins out of my hair and then laughing because it never moved?  All that hairspray held it up.  I think that hair may be the cause of Global Warming.
  • That I fell asleep across the foot of the bed within minutes of getting to the hotel room?  So much for romance!
  • Dinner at Bellini’s the next day?  I can’t ever eat there without smiling and thinking about how proud and happy I was to be your wife.

14 years ago today.  It’s all gone so quickly.  I thought I knew what love was that day.  I now know that I had no idea.

Happy Anniversary, my love.
