After the craziness of the election last week, I needed to stop and catch my breath for a moment. Luckily, today was a national holiday [Veteran’s Day (observed)] which meant a good chance to change gears.
We took the day off from school for a day I’ve affectionately named “National Pick Up After Ourselves Day”. It’s kinda trendy sounding….it could catch on. You never know with these things.
In the spirit of my new favorite totally-made-up-and-only-in-this-house not-really-national national holiday, I gave the kids a choice: a) Do your chores and regular amount of school work, or b) clean the kitchen until I decide it’s done. It should surprise no one that they took B. (Hooray! They picked B!!!!)

This left me free to tackle the front coat/game/under the stairs closet. It was scary under there. Stuff would fall on our feet when we opened the door, which led to children literally throwing things inside and slamming the door shut to stop the avalanche.
It looked like this:

As a bonus, I found a purpose for the old changing table! |
I know tomorrow’s supposed to be a school day, but I’ve seen the linen closet in the hall….and I’m feeling another holiday coming on!
