What if something huge happened, something so monumental that it would literally change the entire course of your family’s lives, something that would fundamentally redefine how you lived…and you completely missed it? What if you thought so little of what had happened that you didn’t even bother to Facebook, tweet, blog, or email about it? How is such a thing even possible? I don’t even know, but it happened to us.
I was trying to write a post yesterday about the one year anniversary of the day Ella started to lose the strength in her legs, and thought I’d go see what I wrote about it then. Turns out that I didn’t.
I wrote nothing except an aside in a text message conversation with a friend. I said, “Ella just said, ‘Mom, my legs feel really tired.’ What does that even mean? LOL” To which my friend answered, “No clue. Kids are weird.”
And just like that we went back to talking about Easter plans and our insane relatives.* I can’t find any thought of what was looming nightmare for at least three more days. The monster was already in our house…and we completely missed that it was here.
*(If you’re my family, and you’re reading this…clearly I wasn’t referring to you. The other family members. The crazy ones. You know…)
