Roger E. Olson is an Emeritus Professor of Christian Theology at George W. Truett Theological Seminary of Baylor University in Waco, Texas (USA). He taught Christian theology for forty years in three Christian universities, most recently Baylor. He is the author of over twenty books of theology including The Story of Christian Theology and The Journey of Modern Theology (both published by InterVarsity Press). He is an avowed evangelical Arminian, a believer in God-given free will, and a critic of Calvinism. (See his book Against Calvinism published by Zondervan). Roger is multi-denominational having been Pentecostal, Baptist, Mennonite and Presbyterian. He has been married to his wife Becky for almost fifty years and enjoys playing with his four grandchildren.

When asked about what Roger likes about contributing to Patheos, he said, “I have long been told that I have too many opinions and many of my friends and relations don’t want to hear them anymore. Or they say some of them are too technical or academic. So, for me, my Patheos blog (patheos.com/blogs/rogereolson) is an emotionally and intellectually satisfying way to express my views and interact with reasonably intelligent and thoughtful people who care to engage with me. Every day I look forward to reading (most) readers’ questions and comments. They keep me intellectually alive.”

To Patheos’ future writers, Roger offers this, “I have come to believe that blogging is an art and requires good writing that is concise and clear as well as engaging and even provocative. As you write a blog post, make sure it is relatively brief (you can’t say everything about any subject in one blog post!), clear with carefully chosen words and phrases, and constructive (even if also critical). Stick to one subject in one blog post and be specific. Illustrations help readers very much.”
