Alice H. Murry

Alice H. Murray worked as a Florida adoption attorney for over 30 years. Now, she pursues a different path as Operations Manager for End Game Press. Alice has a passion for writing and she is constantly creating with words. Her work includes contributions to several Short And Sweet books, The Upper Room, Chicken Soup For The Soul, Abba’s Lessons, and the Northwest Florida Literary Review. Alice is a regular contributor to GO!, a quarterly Christian magazine in the Florida Panhandle, and she has three devotions a month published online by Dynamic Women in Missions. Her devotions have also appeared in compilation devotionals such as Ordinary People Extraordinary God and Guideposts’ Pray A Word A Day and Pray a Word for Hope.

Alice’s first book, The Secret of Chimneys, an annotated Agatha Christie mystery, was released in April 2023, with a second book, God Adopted Us First, an adoption devotional set for publication in October 2025. Her other work includes contributions to several ‘Short And Sweet’ books, The Upper Room, Chicken Soup For The Soul, Abba’s Lessons and the Northwest Florida Literary Review.

When Alice was asked about contributing to Patheos, she wrote, “I love the challenge of coming up with creative material regularly, in this case weekly. While I aim to inform and bless my readers, I benefit from all that I learn from penning these pieces. A finished product requires research, which teaches me more about what is going on in our world and the history of various topics. It also requires that I dig deeper into the Bible and biblical themes, which bolsters my own faith. While not my favorite aspect, I’m becoming more attuned to SEO aspects as well.”

She offers this advice to future Patheos contributors. “Hang in there! Don’t be discouraged when you start out. There’s a lot to learn and to become familiar with. But, trust me, the more you do it, the easier it becomes, and it will take you less time. Also, always keep your eyes open for subjects about which you can write. Ideas don’t just automatically pop into your head. What things are being discussed on the news, online, or in your church/community? Are they a possible topic? Finally, write about things YOU are interested in. You will produce a better product when you are interested in the topic yourself. If you aren’t taken with it, why would anyone else be? Even if they were, perhaps you aren’t the best one to write it if it doesn’t resonate with you.”
