Creeping Death

Creeping Death February 17, 2017

Another obvious song to include in a course on the Bible and music is “Creeping Death” by Metallica. If you listen closely to the lyrics, you will not only spot the Exodus story as the background, but will see the specific influence of the movie The Ten Commandments.

I’m a fan of Metallicas early work, and as a Christian in high school and metal head, this song had s lot of meaning to me. Not one of there better tunes really and there Chitlu songs were better. I’m not sure the religious bent of the band, though the lead vocalist was 7 Day Adventist and not happy with it. Former Metallica member Dave Mustain (currently of Megadeth) became a fundamentalist conservative Christian in the last decade or so. For a real Christian Metal experience I suggest Black sabaths, Masters of reality album. Christian but not in the vein of Stryper, just a genuine reflection of Osbourne’s tradtional middle class religiosity filtered through horror and cocain and marijuana.
