I mentioned once before that I was pretty sure that I had spotted a beaver in my neighbor's yard, near the creek. Today the animal in question came into my yard and stayed long enough that I could get photos of it – and I also had another witness. It is always nice when you learn that you were not hallucinating…but as a commenter on this post identified, it was a groundhog/woodchuck, not a beaver. I look forward to providing... Read more

About a week and a half ago, I did an interview with WIBC news radio on the subject of the letter that was up for auction on eBay, in which Albert Einstein commented candidly about his religious beliefs – including some statements that were rather negative about the Bible and Judaism, which was his own background. Below I am embedding the podcast, in case anyone is interested in having a listen. You can also download the mp3. Having referred in my previous post on this subject to an “obituary” for (the Gospel of) Jesus’ Wife, I am running out of possible humorous references. I can still offer a further update at some point that utilizes the Dead Parrot Sketch, once it becomes absolutely clear whether the Gospel of Jesus’ Wife is nailed to its perch. As for the title of this post, read on to find a link about who connects Mrs. Jesus and Christopher Rollston, and... Read more

The blog Unreasonable Faith asked where readers are on the Dawkins Scale (the image describing the scale is from a post on the blog Deity Schmeity): I just finished teaching a class on the first half of David Hume’s Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion, and one of the things I mentioned as a nice feature of that work’s essentially three-way dialogue is that it highlights that matters such as the existence and nature of God are not a linear spectrum. Where on... Read more

A meme centered on Mitt Romney’s use of the phrase “binders full of women” has gone viral. I found myself feeling that it needs more sci-fi takes, and so here’s my Star Wars contribution featuring Jabba the Hutt with his binders (in a different sense) full of women. I am sure you can do better than I did. If you do make a sci-fi meme related to the presidential debate, please share a link to what you create in the... Read more
