The Social Network: It’s all about character Last week an 18-year old Rutgers University student, Tyler Clementi, took his own life after two students videotaped him having a sexual encounter with another male, then posting it on the Internet.  I was listening to NPR on the way home from the theater today and the talk was about privacy issues in the age of the Internet.  Perhaps we are all guilty of hurtful gossip as children and teenagers, saying things about... Read more

Oscar-winner Oliver Stone’s new film “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” is a dark, prophetic masterpiece showcasing some of the best acting this year and some of the weakest.  Yet, it is profoundly disappointing because its premise forgoes morality and any consequences of the evolutionary inevitability of capitalism’s dominance over our humanity. In a way it mourns transcendence. Money may never sleep, and human nature, despite our best impulses, cannot stand up to the temptation to fill up our barn banks... Read more

Timesrecent investigation and values-added formula analysis of teachers. Los Angeles Times published on its website a database of names and grades of teachers in the L.A. Just saw The Tillman Story; the theater was almost sold out. Heartbreaking and though there was a mockery of a congressional investigation, you should hear those generals and Rumsfeld play semantics – for the record. Our country is brought low this day because of the coverup of the reason for Tillman’s death. When lies are needed to protect a war, we need to ask what is being done in our names. Here is a longer review just posted on NCR:... Read more

The  deeply felt television film, starring Kimberly Williams, will be released on DVD September 14, 2010. It is based on true events about how  the Amish community dealt with the tragedy of the Amish school shootings on October 2, 2006. Here is a link to my reviews as well as others for this highest rated ever Lifetime movie: Amish Grace The film is an exercise in forgiveness and reconciliation but is never preachy. Deeply moving but never sentimental. My only... Read more
